Jailbreak 2022

Date: 27th Oct 2022 Author: Scouts Thursday

On Saturday 24th of September Patriot ESU and 4TB scouts returned to Saffron Walden for the first jailbreak since Covid-19, after 4TB’s 2019 invitational victory, stakes were high to maintain the title!

4 teams were entered from 4TB (2 Explorer and 2 Scout) with all 4 teams completing the 45 km hike in 24 hours, avoiding catchers and gaining lives.

Patriot ESU came in at 2nd place losing only by first catch time! Both Patriot ESU and the winning team had the same number of lives, with 4TB Scouts only just behind at 3rd place.

A Scout Participant, Olivia, wrote about her experience on the hike:

“When I did Jailbreak it was physically demanding, but it was also really good fun, we learned a lot about how to read a map and navigate in the dark.  We found ourselves going through fences, bushes and ploughed fields, unfortunately we were caught using a pub to refill our water bottles. We did the grid references wrong and ate in some questionable places. Sleeping was nonexistent as some catchers found us at 2 o’clock in the morning. Overall, though, it was great fun. We got experience, spent time with our friends and got a badge at the end.”

We will be back next year to reclaim the trophy!
