Patriots Thriftwood Camp 2021
The camp started Friday evening with each of us setting up their own hammock and for many, it was their first night sleeping in a hammock. Next the most important thing was to get a good fire going, which our resident fire master Sam was all too keen to start. This may explain why he fell out of his hammock in the night. Lessons to be learned, the more time spent correctly setting up a hammock equals a better, more comfortable nights sleep. It rained a lot during the night but we all stayed warm and dry.
The next morning we made a pancake breakfast and went zip lining, the zip lines were a little short but going down in pairs meant we could have some additional fun. Back at camp after some much needed maintenance to some of the hammocks (mentioning no names). We prepped the pork for our evening meal, as it needed to slow cook for 5 hours on an open fire.
Kayaking was our afternoon activity, and there was only one target on the hit list for a soaking… the master of fire poking Sam. It didn’t matter anyway as we all got soaked and had a good laugh.
The dinner of pulled pork which I can safely say was the tastiest meal we have ever made on a camp, I think we can all agree. Now time for the England v Ukraine game, which it seemed the whole campsite was watching via some method, we had a laptop and projector which spent most of the first half buffering but was perfect during the second half. As everyone was watching the game at slightly different times, we heard cheers before and after the goals hit the net. A very good result for the three lions, Come on England! – Paul Gibson shouts.
After a late night I think everyone slept better in their hammocks, but we woke to a wet morning. A sausage sandwich and some more pancakes or sausages in a pancake wrap was on the menu for breakfast.
The rain stopped for our final activity of archery lead by our own James Skeggs, I thought I was good at archery… Obviously not, well done Seb.
Striking camp and I think we can all agree it was great to be back camping after so long away.
