Scouting during the Coronavirus lockdown and onwards

Date: 18th Aug 2020 Author: GSL

The Coronavirus has had a massive impact to nearly every element of normal life, Scouting included. The group wanted to ensure that young people still had a chance to see their friends, learn new skills and work towards their badges.

Within weeks of the lockdown commencing we were back up and running with weekly Zoom meetings and challenges set via the groups private Facebook page. It was a big learning curve for everyone at first but proved to be a great success with the majority of young people attending, taking part and having a great time!

The Scouts and Explorers moved to outdoor meetings when the social distancing guidelines allowed. With weekly risk assessments and following safety guidance we have been able to hold face-to-face meetings during the Summer holidays.

We all look forward to things returning to normal, but until then we will do our best to ensure that Scouting at 4th Thorpe Bay and Patriot ESU doesn’t stop.
