Southend Estuary District camping competition 2023

Our troop entered 4 teams in this year’s competition, we didn’t take part last year so we had very little experience of the format and requirements, Paul and James asked a few months ago if any of us wanted to enter and that if we wanted too we would need to practise to have any chance of winning. So after weeks of putting up tents and cooking meals at our scout meetings and at home, we arrived in our smart uniform which was judged by the markers. We started well and took advice from the leaders on how we could improve our site layout and tent pitching.
The cooking was hard at times, serving every meal in a short window of time to obtain maximum marks. Saturday afternoon saw our cobra patrol win the district ‘super troop’ trophy, we all checked on each other throughout the weekend and come Sunday afternoon we had prepared ourselves for the final results.
We had our hopes high as the first few patrols were called to collect their certificates. Claiming 6th and 4th place, 4TB still had 2 teams left for the top 3. When I found out my patrol placed 1st and our groups other patrol 2nd I was so happy.
